What can I expect from Fuller's MAMHM degree?

Fuller's MA in Mental Health and Ministry (MAMHM) prepares graduates to support mental health and well-being in diverse, non-clinical ministry contexts. The MAMHM is designed for students who want to enhance their ministry through psychology and systems thinking. Our unique two-school advantage provides deeply rooted spiritual formation alongside rigorous mental health training.

Coursework Includes:

  • Foundational Course: This interdisciplinary course introduces the most helpful psychological paradigms for understanding what it means to be and become more fully human.
  • MAMHM Core Courses (7 courses): Coursework will cover topics including integrating faith and mental health; ethics, boundaries, and resilience in ministry; and cross-cultural communication and relationship dynamics. The capstone course will focus on developing practical plans to address mental health issues within local congregations or communities.
  • Electives (4 courses): Choose from a variety of advanced courses tailored to the nuances and complexities of your calling, or complete a concentration in Trauma-Informed Care and Ministry.

What can I do with a Master of Arts in Mental Health and Ministry?

Ideal candidates for this program will be individuals who seek to integrate mental health principles with ministry practice in a variety of settings.

Below are just a few of the positions that might be available to Fuller MAMHM graduates:

  • Church leaders, pastors, and chaplains providing mental health support in congregational settings
  • Individuals working with nonprofits, NGOs, and faith-based organizations addressing trauma, crisis intervention, and emotional well-being
  • Humanitarian and mission workers serving in developing countries, conflict zones, or areas with limited access to professional mental health care
  • Social workers, case managers, or chaplains in hospitals, prisons, or rehabilitation centers

  • Faith leaders addressing mental health stigmas in non-Western cultural contexts

Make the most of your time and money.

How much will it cost?

The current tuition rate is $375 per unit. We know that cost is an important consideration, but so is value—how well a program prepares you for the work to which you are called. A degree program that provides relevant credentials but also shapes your mind in important new directions is worth the investment in both time and money.

How long will it take?

The MAMHM typically is completed in about 1.5 years, but you can set your own pace, depending on work, family, or other commitments. You’ll be able to put your learning into practice as you go. Your ministry will provide context for your studies, and your studies will shape the way you serve and lead the people God has entrusted to your care.

Why should I pursue my Master of Arts in Mental Health and Ministry at Fuller Seminary?

Taught by renowned scholar-practitioners, Fuller’s rigorous MAMHM program integrates spiritual, academic, intercultural, vocational, and emotional formation to equip graduates for resilient leadership.
